Dale H. Whitford, age 90, of Kettering, passed away on Monday, January 1, 2018.
He was born, October 8, 1927 in Denver, Colorado but primarily lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma until he entered the Navy. Later he attended college at the University of Cincinnati, a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity and graduated in 1951 with a B.S. degree in Aeronautical Engineering.
He was a founding member of the University of Dayton Research Institute. During his 41 year career he performed research on braking systems, airplane structures and windshield design. Later he became the leader of the Aerospace Mechanics Division.
Dale was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church where he was a member of the choir, Methodist Men and Stephen Ministers. Also he spent 22 years teaching over 600 children to build and fly model planes at the church.
He was a noted aeronautical historian and author giving over 150 lectures on the Wright Brothers and jet engine development. Survivors include his wife, Sylvia and sons Bob and Russell along with 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandsons.
A memorial service will be held at Christ United Methodist Church in Kettering, Ohio at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Christ United Methodist Church, Kettering, Ohio.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 24, 2018 from 9:30 am -11:00 am at Christ United Methodist Church, 3440 Shroyer Rd., Kettering, Ohio. The memorial service will follow at 11:00 am, with a meal to follow.
