Cuthbert “Cubby” Cornette, age 85, of Beavercreek, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on January 30, 2026, with Jackie, his beloved wife of 64 years by his side. A devout Christian, his faith was central to who he was and guided how he lived.
Cubby was born on July 20, 1940, in Sassafras, Kentucky, to the late Raleigh and Orpha (Ritchie) Cornett. He graduated from Knott County’s Carr Creek High School in 1958, earned a B.S. degree in Accounting from Eastern Kentucky University in 1963, and began his career at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base as an accountant. In 1969, he transitioned to computer systems work, and after 32 years of dedicated service, he retired as Director of Contracting Systems, Air Force Materiel Command. In 1995, Cubby was honored with the Outstanding Civilian Career Service Award for meritorious service to his country and United States Air Force. Following retirement from civil service, he continued his career for another decade as a government contractor program manager.
Family was at the heart of Cubby’s life. He was a devoted husband and father and loved being “Papaw” to his grandkids. During different phases of his life, He was happiest surrounded by his family celebrating a special occasion and sharing a meal. Cubby and Jackie enjoyed extensive travel abroad, and treasured their winters at their second home in Bradenton, Florida. He will be remembered for his infectious smile, joyous spirit, steadfast devotion to God, sacrificial love for his family, and genuine care for others. Cubby was adored by all who knew him and will be deeply missed. His family finds great comfort in the assurance that they will see him again.
Cubby was preceded in death by his beloved parents, his younger brother, Robert Clyde Cornett, and his great-grandson, Owen Dodson. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jackie (Goodson) Cornette, daughters Marty (Mike) Kacik, Nicole (Mike) Nelson, and Tonia Cornette, son Bryan Cornette, grandchildren Blake Beasley (fiancée Kara White), Brittany (Curtis) Scheerschmidt, Zachary (Jenna) Beasley, Emma Nelson (fiancé Jason Roberts), Noah Nelson, Alicia (Scott) Dodson, and Adrianna (Cody) McCoy, his great-grandchildren Skyler, Hayden and Scarlett Scheerschmidt, and Winter McCoy, and a host of extended family members and friends.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Cubby’s life at First Baptist Church of Kettering, on Friday, February 20. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm, with funeral services at noon. Burial will follow at Mount Zion Park Cemetery, Beavercreek, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Samaritan’s Purse. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton for their compassionate care of Cubby and support to his family.
