The world lost a gentle person with the passing of Curtis Hoskins on March 3, 2026 at the age of 71. Born on October 15, 1954, in Dayton Ohio, Curtis grew into a man defined by compassion, loyalty, and quiet strength. He had a way of making people feel at ease — a presence that brought comfort, a laugh that softened hard days, and a heart that never stopped giving. He was the son of the late Hamp and Mabel Hoskins. Curtis lived a life rooted in family and the simple joys that brought him peace.

When his health allowed, Curtis attended Redemption Tabernacle Church, where he found comfort and peace. He cherished time spent outdoors, especially riding 4-wheelers, dirt bikes and anything that would go through those mountain roads of southeastern Kentucky — his favorite place to feel free and connected to the world around him. He also loved being on the water, spending many days boating on Lake Cumberland and Buck Creek, and enjoying the thrill of jet skiing. Curtis enjoyed practicing his aim and took great pride in caring for the guns and knives passed down to him by his father, sharpening each blade with patience and reverence for the hands that held them before his.

Curtis had a natural talent for working with his hands. He loved taking things apart and putting them back together again, and even if a few spare parts were left over, somehow, they always managed to work. That knack for fixing things — and the humor that often came with it — was one of the many ways he showed his resourceful and easygoing spirit. He loved kids and delighted in making them laugh, especially when telling scary stories just to see how much he could spook them. He also enjoyed playing pranks, especially on his mom, and took great joy in giving her a playful scare, even though she would fuss about it afterwards. Above all, Curtis loved to laugh and his laughter had a way of filling a room and lifting the spirits of everyone around him.

Curtis’s greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his son Curtis Wayne Hoskins and his wife Amanda Hoskins. He is also survived by three stepchildren: Chuck Miller, Jenny Hayden, and Aaron Wood. His surviving siblings include his brothers Myral Hoskins and Danny Hoskins (Pam), and his sisters, Alene (Robert) Loudermilk and Mattie (Michael) Steele.

He leaves behind a large and loving family, 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and a great many nieces and nephews who will carry his memory forward.

Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, Hamp and Mabel Hoskins; his stepson, Dwayne Miller; his stepdaughter, Rhonda Cassidy; and Vickie Tidwell, the mother of his son, with whom he maintained a loving and enduring relationship throughout their lives.

Curtis also shared a special bond with Judy Richie, a dear friend with whom he made many cherished memories.

Those who knew Curtis will remember his quiet strength, his playful spirit, his love for children, his laughter and the way he found joy in the traditions passed down through generations.
