Connie S. Hay, 74, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 25, 2026, at Hospice of Dayton.
Born on February 28, 1952, in Columbus, Ohio, Connie lived a life centered on care, love, and the quiet strength that so often leaves the deepest impression. She was a stay-at-home mom, and in that role she also built a childcare business in her home, extending her nurturing spirit to many families and children over the years. Caring for others was not simply something Connie did; it was part of who she was.
Connie found joy in life’s simple and meaningful pleasures. She enjoyed crafting and coloring, working puzzles, playing board games, and reading. She loved cats, and she could often be found enjoying Lifetime Movie Network and Hallmark movies. Shopping was one of her favorite pastimes and was typically an all-day affair, something she embraced with enthusiasm and delight. More than anything, Connie treasured time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her tremendous happiness.
For many years, Connie was a member of the American Legion Post #675 in Dayton, where she formed numerous connections and friendships.
In every setting, she was known as someone who was very quiet, yet fully capable of speaking her mind when needed. She had a silly spirit, and a love of laughter that brightened the lives of those around her. Above all, she was very loving and caring, and that warmth will be remembered by all who knew her.
Connie is survived by her daughter, Holly Sizemore; grandchildren, Cheyenne (Jon) Steward, Dustin Sizemore, Dalton Harding, and Cici Harding; great grandchildren, Talen Robertson, Ellie Steward, and Quinn Steward; as well as numerous loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Virginia Commeans; son, Robert Leffingwell Jr.; brothers, Herbert Commeans Jr., Robert Commeans, and Delbert "Ed" Commeans.
Funeral service will be held at 5 PM on Friday, November 6, 2026 at Newcomer Funeral Home in Centerville. Visitation will begin two hours prior at 3 PM.
Connie’s life was a gentle reminder of the importance of family, kindness, and enjoying the moments that make a home and a heart full. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
