It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our father Christopher Lander, a man of boundless love for his family and an endless supply of jokes for his friends. Chris was born December 20th 1953 in Washington D.C. and passed away peacefully the morning of July 1st. Affectionately known as Popsie to his grandchildren, Chris delighted in the family gatherings that were the highlight of his retirement. He graduated from Beavercreek high school in 1972, making friends that would eventually last his entire life. He started his welding career at Hobart welding school in his 20s and eventually achieved his lifelong goal of self employment in his 40s. He loved to play the bass guitar to his beloved blues and classic rock songs, was an avid member of the Catholic Church & the Knights of Columbus (carrying on a tradition from his Italian grandfather) and was a published author / member of the American Welding Society. Always willing to tell a well-timed joke or beat you handily in a game of euchre, Pop had a large presence that was warm, infectious, and will be forever missed.
In addition to his parents, Chris was preceded in death by his two older brothers, Michael Lander and Tony Lander. He is survived by his two children Nicholas Lander and Carolyn Lander-Boulis, their spouses Angie Lander and Brian Lander-Boulis, and his five grandchildren Dominic, Sophia, Mary, Ariana, and Elizabella. In addition, Chris leaves behind 6 sisters and many wonderful lifelong friends who will deeply miss his kind deep voice and a laugh so loud and jolly that he would rattle the windows.
“I’ve lived a good life, charmed even”, he once told me this past March.
