OBITUARY
OF
CHRISTINE (CHRYS) STATHES COUCHOT
Christine (Chrys) Stathes Couchot, age 77 of Centerville, Ohio passed away on February 15, 2026 peaceably with her husband and children by her side.
Chrys was born in Dayton, Ohio on May 25, 1948 at 6:07 am to Paul and Anne Stathes. Chrys graduated from Fairmont East High School in 1966. She went on to Kent State University to study fashion design, a passion she carried throughout her life. After two years at Kent State she returned home and attended Wright State University briefly before entering the banking industry as a teller and on to become an internal auditor. After marrying Larry she became his partner not only in life but in business. They built a successful public accounting firm, a business consulting business and a significant commercial real estate business to support their retirement years and beyond.
Chrys married the love of her life, Larry E Couchot on the 12th of November 2005 at the Arizona Biltmore Hotel in Phoenix, Arizona.
Chrys and Larry enjoyed traveling in Europe and the Greek Isles as well as many fascinating places in the United States. Mostly, they sought to build memories with their children and grandchildren, taking them on vacation as a “FAMILY”. It was her most gratifying time...with the family, seeing the joy on their faces, the sparkle in their eye and amazing chatter around the dinner table in the evenings. Whether it was watching the sunset over the Mediterranean, the Grand Canyon, or the Grand Tetons or a slow stroll down Michigan Avenue watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, these experiences filled her heart with joy. There were many other treasured places and memories too numerous to mention. Through the years the house always had some sort of pet or critter the children had to have but Chrys seemed to always take care of…without complaint…it was for her children.
Chrys also enjoyed her time as a lady of the Philoptochos Society at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church where she was an anonymous donor for years. She loved her church, she loved the Lord, she loved her family, and she loved her Greek heritage…although she did inherit a firecracker Greek temper….quick and loud but short in duration. Her life was rooted in devotion, generosity, and unwavering love for those closest to her.
Chrys is survived by her beloved husband, Larry E Couchot; her daughter, Elizabeth Stekli (Justin) of Springboro, Ohio; her son, Michael Callahan (Samantha) of Bloomington, Indiana; and her cherished grandchildren, Kayden Stekli and Rylee Stekli of Springboro, Ohio.
Chrys is preceded in death by her father, Paul Gus Stathes and her mother, Anne Thomas Stathes.
Visitation will be held at Newcomers Funeral Home 820 Miamisburg-Centerville Rd Dayton, Ohio 45459 on Sunday February 22nd from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm with a short Trisagion Service at 5:00 pm presided over by Rev. Fr. Anthony Cook from the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church where Chrys was a devout and loyal member for her entire life.
