Chester D. Prather, Sr., a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on September 26, 2025, in Dayton, Ohio, at the age of 83. Born on November 26, 1941, in Madison County, Kentucky, Chester was a man who loved life and all the wonderful moments it had to offer.
Chester had a long career as a commercial truck driver, a role that allowed him to traverse countless miles and meet many people. His straightforward nature and penchant for joking made him a favorite among friends and coworkers alike. Chester knew how to light up a room; he was truly the life of the party. His stubbornness often added charm to his character, while his big heart endeared him to everyone around him.
He cherished his family deeply, always making time for his loved ones. Chester is survived by his son, Chet (Lisa) Prather, Jr., and his daughter, Michelle (Jeff) Wilson. He took immense pride in his grandchildren: Shea Price, Frankie Price, Nathan (Kammy) Prather, Ethan (Desiree) Prather and Chris Prather, along with his great-grandchildren, Zoey Medlock, Gunner Dear, Wyatt Price, Jade Price, Dalton Price, Ridge Price, Makenna Prather, and Remington Prather.
Chester had a passion for fishing and enjoyed going to car shows, with particular love for his 1971 Chevy truck. These hobbies gave him joy and provided a sense of adventure throughout his life. Now, he is at peace, in the arms of Jesus.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 47 years, Sandy Prather, along with his parents, Freeman and Nora Prather, and many brothers and sisters. Though he has left this Earth, the memories and love he shared will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him. Chester D. Prather, Sr. will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his larger-than-life spirit and unwavering love for his family.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 2, 2025 from 10-11am at the Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton, OH 45424. The service will follow at 11am. Chester will be laid to rest with his wife, Sandy at Germantown Cemetery.
