Charles Bryan Vest — better known in many circles as “King Wha Tasha, King Chuck a BoBo,” or the man answering the phone with, “City morgue… you stab ’em, we slab ’em” — passed away on May 16, 2026, at the age of 72.
Charlie never met a stranger, never turned down a chance to joke around, and probably never answered the phone normally a single day in his life. He had the rare ability to make people laugh without even trying. The truth is, if you spent more than five minutes around him, you walked away with either a story, a nickname, or a completely made-up phrase stuck in your head forever.
He loved bass fishing, the outdoors, sports, softball, and arguing statistics like he was being paid by ESPN. Whether he was on the water, watching a game, or giving somebody a hard time just for fun, Charles made life entertaining. He was the kind of man who could be completely serious one minute and have the whole room crying laughing the next.
While he spent many years working hard and providing for his family, the people closest to him knew his real full-time job was being a husband, dad, grandpa, storyteller, comedian, and professional smart-aleck.
Charlie leaves behind the love of his life, Shirley, along with his children: Charles Bryan (Rhonda) Vest II, Latisha Parton, Jessica (Tony) Perdue, Benjamin (Meghan) Creech, Cassandra Creech, and Brittany (Bradley) Daniels.
He also leaves behind a large and loving crew of grandchildren — Ronald, Brianna, Allen, Krista, Kyle, Tony, Brandon, Aliyah (Kevin Lewis), Jose, Benjamin, Taylor, Wyatt, Gavin, Lucas, Greyson, Bonnie, Dustin, Izzy, and Lucas — as well as great-grandchildren Xavier, Avery, Mackie, Harmony, Anthony Charles, and Bentley, all of whom brought him tremendous pride and joy.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Dorothy Vest, and his brothers Ronnie and Bob.
His family will remember him as a man who loved deeply, laughed loudly, and somehow made ordinary moments unforgettable. He leaves behind countless stories, inside jokes, fishing tales that may or may not have been exaggerated, and a lifetime of memories that will continue to make people smile for years to come.
Rest easy, King Chuck a BoBo. We can already hear you answering the phones in heaven.
