Listen to Obituary

Charlene Houston, born February 17, 1960, in Dayton, peacefully passed away in her hometown on June 30, 2026. Her steadfast spirit and loving heart touched the lives of all who knew her, leaving a legacy rooted in kindness, resilience, and devotion to family.

A lifelong resident of Riverside, Charlene’s story is interwoven with that of her beloved community. Throughout her life, she radiated warmth, compassion, and an unwavering loyalty to those she cherished. She found joy in life’s simple moments and sought to create an atmosphere of love wherever she went.

Charlene shared a profound partnership with her late husband, Paul Houston; together they built a life marked by dedication and mutual respect. Though Paul preceded her in death, along with her dear father, Thurman Reed, her mother, Nellie Reed, and beloved brothers Sheridan Dan (June Ann) Reed, Johnny Henry, and Bruce Henry, Charlene’s memory continues on through generations touched by her enduring spirit.

She is remembered with deepest love by her family, including her devoted son and daughter-in-law Paul "Pee" and Shannon Houston. Her grandchildren—Brandon (Luella) Houston, Christopher (Brittany Griffith) Houston, Nicholas Houston, Ashton (Kenzie) Houston—each carry a piece of her legacy, enriched by the lessons and love she so freely gave. Among her many blessings, Charlene was also the cherished great-grandmother to Brayson, Ashtyn, Brooks, Chris, Cash, Kinsley, Tate, Silas, Ava, and Axel. Family gatherings, filled with laughter and storytelling, were a source of pride and happiness for Charlene, who delighted in seeing her family grow.

Her sister, Tina Nicewander, as well as her step-daughter Barbie (Mike) Thompson and step-sons Paul  Houston and Jimmy (Mary) Houston, share in the sorrow of her passing, holding close the memory of her generosity and gentle strength. She was embraced by extended family—nieces, nephews, cousins, additional grandchildren—and always maintained strong bonds with her dear friends, who found in her a confidant and source of unwavering support. She is also survived by her beloved dog, Coco.

Charlene’s compassionate nature and immeasurable kindness left a lasting impact, not only on her loved ones but on everyone fortunate enough to cross her path. Her nurturing presence, grounded wisdom, and steadfast love will remain a guiding force for those she leaves behind.
