Catherine L. (Esken) Coyle, a beloved figure within her family and community, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2025, at her home in Huber Heights, Ohio, at the age of 78. Born on April 15, 1947, in Dayton, Ohio, Catherine lived a life that was nothing short of extraordinary, impacting all those fortunate enough to know her.
Catherine was a woman of remarkable character-gorgeous inside and out, she radiated warmth and kindness. Her generous spirit characterized her interactions with others; those who met her quickly learned that she was the world’s biggest giver. Catherine had a special love for everyone she encountered and shared her heart with an endless array of teddy bears, which were a reflection of her nurturing personality. Her greatest joy was sitting in the love seat recliner holding the hand of the person she loved the most, her husband Bob.
In her professional life, Catherine made a mark as a dedicated massage therapist, working with various doctor’s offices in the Dayton area before taking on a position at Electronic Commodity Corporation. Her commitment to helping others extended beyond her career and into the hobbies she enjoyed. An avid crafter, Catherine found joy in painting, paint by numbers, ceramics, sewing, and enjoyed baking and decorating cakes. In addition, she was a devoted fan of cop shows, documentaries, and detective series, often finding herself engrossed in these stories during her leisure time. Lovingly known as "Taffy," she brought sweetness and creativity into every corner of her life. More than anything, Catherine was a beloved wife, devoted mother and caring grandmother.
Catherine's educational journey began with her graduation from Julienne Catholic High School in 1966, and she continued her pursuit of knowledge at the Ohio School of Medical Massage, where she honed her skills to help others feel their best.
Her legacy will be carried on by her loving husband of 59 years, Bob Coyle, who stood by her side through every moment of joy and challenge. Together, they cultivated a beautiful family environment. Catherine was a proud mother to her four children: Roberta Grippon (Mark), Melven Coyle (Jayne), Mark Coyle (Donnie), and Dennis Coyle (Kathryn). She reveled in her role as a grandmother, showering her grandchildren-Nicole Watkins (Danny), Kayla Grippon (Jason), Mark Grippon Jr (Rachel), Che' Grippon (Tre'), Dylan Grippon, Cody Grippon, Andrew Grippon (Andrea), Matthew Grippon, and Adrina Grippon-with love and affection, while also celebrating each of her 14 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable happiness. Catherine is also survived by her cherished sister, Melva Ruff, along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her father, Louis Esken, and her mother, Wanda Edwards, as well as her brothers and sisters: Leonard Esken, Louis "Skip" Esken Jr., Gerald Esken, Russell Esken, Evelyn Noe, Wanda Irwin, and Juanita Campbell. Their spirits will forever reside alongside her, reunited in the everlasting embrace of love.
Catherine L. Coyle leaves behind a treasure trove of memories and an indelible mark on the hearts of those who were fortunate to call her family or friend. Her legacy of love, generosity, and creativity will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.
