Carol Virginia Huelsman, age 90, passed away peacefully at her home on October 3, 2026. Carol was born on November 19, 1935, the youngest of three children, in Dayton, Ohio to Ernest and Lottie Arnold.

In 1955, Carol married Charles “Charlie” Huelsman, and they shared more than 60 years of marriage until his passing in 2016. Together they raised three sons and a daughter. Carol was a devoted mother who was adored by her children. She also became like a second mother to many of her children’s friends and was a favorite aunt among her nieces and nephews.

During their long marriage, Carol and Charlie had a very active social life. They loved to travel and were fortunate enough to see many amazing places, including Europe, Hawaii, and Alaska. They especially enjoyed cruises and the opportunity to get out and explore new places. Carol and Charlie were members of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and especially enjoyed the many fish fries that the Eagles sponsored. They often invited family and friends to join them and share in the fun. Carol and Chalie also enjoyed being part of the Free Spirits senior group, a fitting name if ever there was one. They made many new friends and really enjoyed their “Free Spirit” adventures.

Before her eyesight failed her in later years, Carol loved to read, and her home reflected her love for reading with walls lined with books she had enjoyed and collected over the years. She could often be found in her cozy chair by the door with her latest book in her hand. She was also a devoted Elvis Presley fan with a highlight being a memorable trip to Graceland taken with Charlie and her very young granddaughter, Jennifer. Carol owned a collection of Elvis commemorative plates that were proudly displayed on her family room wall. Elvis Presley’s face could also be found on playing cards, calendars, posters, Christmas ornaments, mugs and even T-shirts. One memorable Christmas, Carol was especially excited as she had purchased Elvis T-shirts for the women in her family. She insisted that all the ladies change into their Elvis shirts for pictures.

Aside from her family and friends, perhaps nothing brought Carol more happiness than Christmas. Carol loved Christmas and celebrated it in a big way. She transformed her house with festive decorations and stacks of presents under BOTH of her Christmas trees. Her annual Christmas Eve party became a treasured family tradition – a time for everyone to gather, celebrate, laugh, eat, and exchange gifts. Carol loved buying gifts, and Christmas shopping was never a small undertaking. She would pull out the little notebook from her purse and check off her list as she shopped. She delighted in finding presents for the people she loved and making the holidays special for everyone around her.

Carol is survived by her sons, John, Mark, Jeff (Kim) Huelsman and her daughter Patty Huelsman. She was also a loving grandmother to Sean, John Charles Jr., Natasha, Blake, Courtney, Erica, Brooke, Autumn, Collin, Brian, and Christopher as well as great grandmother to, Lerial, Justice, Brandon, Sarah, Elizabeth, Benjamin, James, Madaleine, Theodore, Thomas, Gracie, Mara, Lilah, Hadley, Camryn, Jonah, Jaelinn, Jaylah, Zoey, and Zane. She was proceeded in death by her beloved husband, Charlie; her brother Gene; her sister, Dorothy, and her beloved grandchildren, Jennifer Carol and Michael. Jennifer and Michael remained forever in Carol’s heart and were never forgotten.

Carol lived a full and wonderful life and will be remembered for her love of family and friends, her treasured traditions, her feisty spirit and her no-nonsense attitude. Her absence will be deeply felt, but the celebrations and everyday moments shared throughout her 90 years leave her family with a lifetime of cherished memories.
