Carol Jean Colchin, a devoted mother and cherished family matriarch, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026, in Dayton, Ohio. Born on April 5, 1937, in Dayton, Carol’s life was marked by her deep devotion to her family and her vibrant personality—a blend of ornery spirit, stubborn determination, boundless fun, and genuine caring.
A proud graduate of Wilbur Wright High School in 1956, Carol embraced what she fondly described as the "toughest job there is"—that of a stay-at-home mom. Her greatest pride and accomplishment throughout her life were her family, especially her beloved grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her days.
Carol delighted in many hobbies and interests that reflected her zest for life. She enjoyed traveling, frequenting Vegas, playing bingo and going to casinos, and engaging her creative side with crafting, particularly paint-by-numbers. These pursuits brought her joy and allowed her to share many memorable moments with those she loved.
Carol’s family and friends will remember her uniquely warm spirit, her indomitable will, and the loving home she nurtured. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James A. Colchin; her parents, Lester and Janice Votaw; her siblings Richard Votaw, Daniel Votaw, and Edward Votaw; and her son-in-law, Chip Lee.
She is lovingly survived by her children, Chris Colchin and Katrina Lee; her grandchildren, Nicholas (Carissa) Colchin and Robert Colchin; her great-grandchildren, Lillian and Delilah Colchin; and numerous nieces and nephews. They, along with all who knew her, carry forward her memory and the joy she brought into their lives.
A visitation will be held on June 10, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home in Beavercreek, Ohio, located at 3380 Dayton Xenia Road, where friends and family may gather to celebrate Carol’s life. The funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m.
