Carl Ray Spangler, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on February 1, 2026, in Dayton, Ohio. Born on August 21, 1942, in Rand, West Virginia, he lived a life with laughter and love.

For many years, Carl worked as a scheduler for Harris Graphics in Dayton and later at Graphic Systems Services Inc. in Springboro. Known for his bubbly and jolly personality, he was a true jokester who never met anyone who didn't like him. His spirit brightened the lives of those around him.

Even though Carl moved to Ohio in 1967, he eventually bought his childhood home in West Virginia. Every summer he would go back to maintain the property and spend time with family.

Carl had a variety of interests. While he wasn't one to hunt deer, he enjoyed watching them in their natural habitat. Fishing was a favorite pastime, and spending time with family was of utmost importance to him. His grandson, Connor Ray Spangler, was his best buddy, and they shared special moments together that he cherished deeply. Christmas was always his favorite holiday, and he took great joy in celebrating it with loved ones. An avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan, he proudly supported the team, even though he hailed from West Virginia. He also had a love hate relationship with the Cincinnati Reds. You could often find Carl tinkering in his garage, always keeping himself busy.

He leaves behind his devoted wife of 61 years, Brenda Kay Spangler; his son, Carl Ray (Julie) Spangler II; his grandson, Connor Ray Spangler; his siblings, Naomi "Sue" (James) Tignor, Roy "Cork" Spangler, and Gary Spangler; his sister-in-law, Josephine "Jo" Spangler; along with 8 nieces and 8 nephews; and his granddog, Sadie, who will all miss him dearly.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Emery Estil and Irene Pearl Spangler, his siblings Patsy Spangler, Elizabeth "Libby" Stricker, Clayton "Bud" Spangler, Emery “Gene” Spangler, Donald Spangler, Emma Louise Spangler, James “Fred” Spangler, and Catherine “Kay” Spangler; his sisters-in-law Linda Spangler, Patty Spangler, Carol Spangler, and Ann Spangler, and his brother-in-law, Phil Stricker.

The family will have a celebration of life at a later date.

Carl will be remembered for his warm spirit, amazing personality, and the love he shared with everyone in his life. His legacy of kindness will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
