Brian Matthew Harvey

Brian Matthew Harvey was a beloved husband, father, son, grandpa, family man, and friend whose life was defined by his unwavering love for the people around him. He was a man of quiet strength and deep faith—a humorous, kind, thoughtful, wise, and stoic man who was sometimes affectionately known as a “gentle giant.”

Above all else, Brian loved his family. His wife and three daughters were the center of his world, and he would do whatever it took to take care of them. He was the person his family could count on, no matter the circumstances. His love was steady, protective, and unconditional. To Brian, being there for the people he loved was never a question—it was simply who he was.

Brian was a faithful man and was a part of Fairhaven Church. His faith was an important part of his life, and he carried that faith with the same quiet strength that characterized so much of who he was.

Those who knew Brian knew there was also a fun and humorous side to him. He loved being surrounded by family and friends, sharing good conversation, laughter, music, and the simple moments that become cherished memories. He had a genuine appreciation for life and for the people who made it meaningful.

Brian had many interests that reflected his curiosity and personality. He loved boating and had a particular fascination with WWI/WWII ships and airplanes. He was a devoted Cincinnati Bengals fan and enjoyed watching basketball and tennis. He loved music and, of course, appreciated a good bourbon. Whether spending time on the water, watching a game, listening to music, or simply sitting among family and friends, Brian was happiest when he was with the people he cared about.

Brian's wisdom, kindness, humor, and strength left an impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He did not always need many words to make an impact. His presence spoke for itself. He was dependable, thoughtful, and fiercely devoted to those he loved.

One of the verses that held special meaning for Brian was Isaiah 40:31:

“but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.”

These words are a fitting reflection of Brian's life and faith. His strength, his love for his family, and the example he set will continue to live on in those who knew and loved him.

Brian was preceded in death by his father, William Lee Harvey. He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Jacquline Harvey, who was the love of his life and his partner through all of life’s joys and challenges. He is also survived by his three daughters, Katherine Johnson and her husband, Kyle; Rachel Houck and her husband, Zack; and Sarah Troxell and her husband, Hayden. Brian adored his daughters and cherished the families they built.

He leaves behind his grandchildren, Elijah Houck, Noah Houck, and Harvey Johnson, who brought him tremendous joy and were a treasured part of his life.

Brian is also survived by his mother, Mary Opal Harvey; his brothers, William Keith Harvey and his wife, Madonna; Derek Harvey and his wife Heidi; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

His family was the most important part of Brian’s life. He loved them fiercely and unconditionally and was always there to care for and support them, no matter what. The love he gave his family will continue to live on through them. Brian will be deeply missed by his wife, his three daughters, his family, his friends, and all those whose lives he touched. Though he is no longer physically with us, the love he gave, the memories he created, and the lessons he taught will remain with us always.

An open house celebration of life for Brian Matthew Harvey will be held on Friday, September 25, from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Kettering American Legion Post 598, 5700 Kentshire Dr., Kettering, Ohio 45440. There will be food and beverages (non-alcoholic and alcoholic) provided, along with an open mic toast at 6:00 p.m. for anyone who would like to say a few words.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Brian's memory to Kettering American Legion Post 598 or Fairhaven Church. In memory of Brian, the family encourages everyone who is able to consider donating blood at their local blood bank. Brian was the recipient of multiple blood transfusions during his fight with cancer, and we know firsthand how important blood donors are to families during some of their most difficult moments. A blood donation is a simple gift that can make an immeasurable difference to someone in need.
