Billy Ray Campbell, 82, of Barboursville, Kentucky passed away May 4, 2017 in Riverside, OH. Billy was born in Indian Creek, Kentucky on December 2, 1934 to Albert and Amanda (McVey) Campbell. He married Bernice Jones on April 12, 1954 in Corbin, Kentucky and they were married for 63 years.
Billy retired in 2014 as a bus driver from the Corbin and West Knox City Schools. He was a tinkerer who had a love of small clocks and motors, loved children, especially the ones on his bus routes. Billy loved bluegrass music, fishing, his family hunting trips with his family and Bernice's biscuits and gravy and coconut cream pies. He loved his family dearly and will be greatly missed by all.
He is survived by wife Bernice; two daughters, Elizabeth Ann (William) Helms and Billie Ruth VanZant; two sons, Johnny Ray (Sandra) Campbell and Michael John (Crystal) Campbell; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren;two sisters, Hazel Hatfield and Martha Cobb; and numerous other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and one sisters.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1:00 - 3:00 pm on May 12, 2017 at Newcomer Funeral Home - North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd. Dayton, OH 45424. Memorial contributions are requested to the American Cancer Society, 2806 Reading Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45206.
