Billy E. Britain passed away peacefully at his home on July 17, 2019. He left his Earthly home and joined his Heavenly home. Billy was born in Cisco, TX.; the son of Irene and William Britain. He left behind his wife, Betty C. Britain; daughter, Debbi (preceded in death by his son-in-law Bob) LaBossier of Richmond, Indiana; two nieces, Carma Taylor and Tonda Taylor Bentley both of Marion, Ohio; granddaughter, Tish (Mike) George; great grandchildren, Evan and Kayleigh George of Beavercreek, Ohio, Deakon Creech; and special great-granddaughter, Alie Truesdell of West Alexandria, Ohio; brothers-in-law, Larry Mason and Wayne Mason; nephew, David Mason; and special friends, Charles and Angela Holley of New Castle, Indiana.
Billy enjoyed meeting his friends at Panera Bread in Centerville, Ohio and talking sports (baseball, football and golf). His favorite teams were the Cincinnati Reds and Dallas Cowboys. Billy was a graduate of the class of 1944 Cisco, Texas High School. Billy was a World War II veteran. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, Air Force and NASA. Billy did hiring in NASA and Communications. Billy graduated from Texas Tech University Lubbock, Texas where he studied Technical and management short courses, Penn State University and California Institute of Technology. He had the honor to have been called into President Kennedy's Oval Office. President John F. Kennedy told Mr. Britain, Mrs. Webb and Mr. Griffin he wanted a Man on the Moon in 10 years. Billy and NASA put a man on the moon in 9 years. Unfortunately, President John F. Kennedy did not live to see this.
God created the moon; Billy and NASA put man on the moon. Neil Armstrong said it best. "It's a great thing for man to walk on the moon. But it's a greater thing for God to walk on the Earth." Thank you Billy for what you did for your country, thank you Jesus for what you did for Billy. When we see the moon, we will be remembering you. Rest in God's loving arms. Thank you God for leaving a light on for Billy, by the light of the moon.
Billy will be cremated and a Celebration of Life Ceremony will be scheduled at a later date.
