Betty Lavinia Chaney was born on June 12, 1944 to Lawrence and Mary Chaney in the town of Furnace, Powell County, in Kentucky. Betty's mother's maiden name was Faught.
Betty graduated from Stebbins High School on 1 June 1962. Then in 1964 she was a student at Miami-Jacobs College where she completed a course in the study and practice of Stenographic. She was hired for a position first in the personnel office at Barney's Children Hospital, today known as Dayton Children's Hospital, and then later to a position of Administrative Assistant in the Administration office.
Two sons later she attended Sinclair Community College and received an Associate Degree of Applied Science, Office Information System in June 1992.
Betty married Hershell F. Salyers on January 16, 1965 at the First Free Will Baptist Church at 419 Prince Albert Boulevard, Dayton, Ohio. The Minister was Rev. Hobart Ashby. Betty was a member of that church. Years later Pastor Ashby performed the wedding of their oldest son at the new church location at 1661 Brandt Pike.
Betty and Frank have two sons and two grandchildren. Their first son is Gary Franklin Salyers and his wife, Gina - they are the parents of granddaughter, Bethany Lauren Salyers. Their second son is Brian Scott Salyers and his wife, Penney - they are the parents of grandson, Tyler Austin Salyers.
Betty became ill with cancer in late April of 2019. After about eleven months of treatment at Ohio State University Hospital, The James. She went home to be with the Lord at 6:40 pm on Friday the 13th of March 2020.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at Mt. Olive Freewill Baptist Church, 2405 Harshman Road, Dayton. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday at the church and the family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Pastor Hollie Van Hoose officiating. Burial to follow at Mt. Zion Park Cemetery, Beavercreek.
