Bethany L. S. Jackson, a vibrant embodiment of love and warmth, departed this world on June 26, 2025. Born on January 17, 1962, in Dayton, Ohio, she blossomed into a spirited woman whose presence could light up the darkest of rooms. A devoted mother and cherished grandmother, Bethany was the matriarch of her family—an indomitable force of nature whose generous spirit and zest for life captivated all who knew her.
Bethany’s educational journey found her graduating from Colonel White High School in the Class of 1980. Her paths, however, would lead her beyond classrooms and into the nurturing embrace of her community, where she dedicated herself to a career marked by passion and service. She made her mark at esteemed institutions such as the Dayton Daily News, the Dayton Art Institute, and the YWCA of Dayton, leaving behind memories etched in the hearts of those touched by her kindness.
A woman deeply connected to the rhythms of life, Bethany found profound joy in music and dance. Her love for the melodic strains of life came alive through her beloved tambourine, an instrument she wielded with enthusiasm and grace—playing it anywhere and everywhere, bringing harmony to gatherings both big and small. A proud member of the Omega Baptist Church, she shared her voice in its choir, lending her heartfelt notes to the fabric of community worship. Her talents also shone brightly when she traveled and sang with Faith Incorporated Choir, a testament to her spirit.
Bethany was not only known for her vocal brilliance but also for her extraordinary gift in the kitchen. A wonderful cook, she shared countless meals filled with laughter, stories, and love, embodying the very essence of family togetherness. As a troop leader for Girl Scout Troop #865 alongside Margaret Hawkins, she nurtured the next generation, instilling in them the values of service and camaraderie.
Her loss is felt deeply by her surviving family: her children, Cherish Burnette and Robert D. Jackson (Breonna), who were fortunate to experience her unwavering love; her grandchildren, Arreya, Chelsea, and Robert, who will continue to carry forward the legacy of joy she instilled in them; her brother, Frederick Stuart (Tracy), and sister, Rebecca "Boni" Stuart, who will hold dear their shared memories; her aunts, Linda Gilkey, Willie Jane, and Alice Faye, alongside her uncle, Frederick "Lil Bruh"; her cherished nieces, Kendra and Destiny; a great-niece, Keandra; her partner, Stanley Lewis; her bonus sisters, Karen, Margaret, Winnie, Danielle, and Angela; and the father of her children, Robert L. Jackson. She leaves behind a vast tapestry of cousins, extended family, and friends, each a testament to the connections she fostered.
Bethany’s heart grieves alongside memories of those who have departed, including her mother, Rebecca “Kool Mama” Stuart; her nephew, Robert “Bear” Chappel; her beloved aunts, Baby Ruth and Freddie Mae; and her grandmother, Willie Mae. Though they are gone from this world, their spirits dance along with hers, entwining in a celebration of life that she so fervently embraced.
As we gather the threads of this remarkable woman’s life, we are reminded that Bethany L. S. Jackson was not merely a mother, grandmother, or friend but rather an enduring melody—a cherished note in our hearts that will echo for generations to come.
