Listen to Obituary

Bernadette Louise Frey, nee Overman, affectionately known to many as "Bernie," passed away peacefully on June 9, 2026, in Englewood, Ohio. Born on April 16, 1928, in Osgood, Ohio, she lived a life marked by kindness, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to her family and work.

Bernadette was a proud high school graduate who built a remarkable career as an electronics technician at Lasermike. Her meticulous nature shone through not only in her expert skills at repairing circuitry and replacing circuit boards but also in her careful documentation of repairs. Her profound knowledge and attention to detail made her a valued professional in her field.

Beyond her career, Bernadette was a woman of great warmth and generosity. She was known for her meticulous care of her home and yard, keeping everything immaculate with an indefatigable spirit. Always on the go, she balanced full-time work, caregiving, shopping, and other errands with an energy that inspired everyone around her. Faith was very important to her, she was a regular at Our Lady Of Mercy Church for many, many years. In her younger years, she enjoyed sewing, which was a testament to her creativity and attention to detail.

Bernadette’s role as a grandmother was especially cherished. She created lasting memories by taking Brian to the Air Force museum and airport observation deck, moments that her family will hold dear forever. She was celebrated by all as a great babysitter and a true matriarch who embodied love, strength, and devotion.

She is survived by her son-in-law, Jeff (Eileen) Hutchins; her grandchildren, Jason Hutchins, Kristen Hutchins, and Brian Frey (Paula); and her great-grandchildren Gavin and Amy. Their lives were richly touched by her presence and guidance, and her legacy will continue through them.

Bernadette was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Leo and Mary Overman; and two daughters, Judy Hutchins and Kathleen Frey. Though these cherished family members left this world before her, their memories lived on in her heart.

The community remembers Bernadette as a kind, hardworking, and generous soul whose life was a testament to love and perseverance. She leaves behind a legacy not only of professional excellence but also of profound personal kindness and familial devotion.

Her passing marks the close of a remarkable life, but her spirit will endure in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. In remembering Bernadette Frey, we honor a woman whose quiet strength and boundless generosity shaped the lives of many and whose memory will be treasured for generations to come.
