Barbara Sue Underwood, age 87 of Centerville, Ohio, passed away peacefully at her home on June 5, 2026. Born in Springfield, Ohio on February 19, 1939, Barbara's life was marked by an unwavering dedication to her family, her faith, and her artistic expression.

A graduate of Springfield High School, she was crowned Homecoming Queen, a testament to her captivating presence and charm. She pursued further education at Wright State University and the University of Dayton, enriching her mind and preparing herself for a life of meaningful accomplishments.

Early on, Barbara's deep affection for Ronald blossomed; high school sweethearts, they were united in marriage on September 12, 1959, following his honorable return from the Marine Corps. Their enduring partnership, spanning an extraordinary 67 years, was a cornerstone of her life. Together, Barbara and Ronald embarked on remarkable journeys, traveling the world with a shared zest for adventure, including the unforgettable experience of walking along the Great Wall of China.

Professionally, Barbara worked as an Assistant Buyer for Wren's women's sportswear. Yet, it was through her art that she most profoundly expressed her soul. An accomplished artist, Barbara’s creations were a testament to her love for the Lord. Her artwork was showcased at many art shows.

Her character was distinguished by generosity and warmth. Barbara was charitable by nature, always extending kindness to others. Her nurturing spirit shone brightest in her roles as wife, mother, and grandmother. Known for being an excellent cook, she delighted family and friends with many fan-favorites like her lasagna, chocolate chip cookies, and chocolate fudge cake—each a delectable expression of her love. Those fortunate enough to enjoy her company often remarked admiringly on her luminous skin, reflecting the joy she carried within. Barbara’s love for animals, especially cats, was a cherished aspect of her life, reflecting her tenderheartedness and compassionate nature. Her faith was a guiding light, and she was a past member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Barbara is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Ronald Underwood; her children, Valerie (Jim) Mitchell, Vicky Tasopulos, and Steve Underwood; six grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, who all will carry forward her legacy of love and devotion. She is also survived by her siblings, Linda (Jeff) Fugate and David (Li) Terwillager, along with numerous extended family members and friends who will forever cherish her memory.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Betty Martin; and brother, Phil Martin.

Barbara’s life was a tapestry woven with love, creativity, and grace. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were privileged to know her, a testament to a life beautifully lived.
