Barbara Louise (Sharrett) Hochwalt age 77 of Dayton, OH, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2025 at PAM Rehabilitation center in Miamisburg, OH. Barbara was a caring and loving mother, grandmother, sister, daughter and wife.
Born November 15, 1947 in Kingsport, TN she was the first daughter of Irvin Adolphus and Mildred Louise (Canter) Sharrett. Growing up in the Bristol area, the “Birthplace of Country Music,” Barbara developed a passion for music. She learned to play piano at Pineview Free-Will Baptist Church at the age of 12 and inspired her two sons to play musical instruments and appreciate “the universal language.” Barbara also loved spending time in the kitchen, cooking Holiday meals and having family gatherings.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 55 years, James G. Hochwalt, sons Brian and Brad (Hailey) Hochwalt, Grandchildren Briana, Elouise and Peyton Hochwalt, sister Anna Katherine, brothers Henry and John and numerous nieces and nephews. Barbara is preceded in death by her father (Irvin), Mother (Mildred) and younger brother Lawrence (Larry) Sharrett.

Memorial service will be held at 1 PM on Friday, October 3, 2025, at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton, Ohio 45424. Visitation will begin one hour prior to service.
