Barbara Hartle

Barbara Joan Hartle, age 83, of Xenia, Ohio, peacefully passed away at home on January 28, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 22, 1942, in Canton, Ohio, to parents Joseph Slayman and Myrtle Gessner.

Barbara cherished the moments spent with her family, particularly during holiday gatherings where she delighted in baking Christmas cookies with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. An enthusiastic supporter of the Cincinnati Bengals and the Dayton Dragons; she also had a deep love for the ocean and treasured vacations at the Outer Banks. Music brought her joy, especially country concerts attended with her family. As a patron of the arts, she thoroughly enjoyed volunteering at the Shuster Center. Barbara's greatest title was that of a devoted mother and grandmother, affectionately known as "Gram" and "Gigi" by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jon Hartle; her brother, Charles "Butchie" Slayman; and her cherished grandchildren, Kellie Johnson and Braden Johnson.

Barbara is survived by her children, Tim (Jennie) Friedmann, Debbie (Chuck) Johnson, Sean Friedmann, and Heather (Todd) Conroy. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Sammy (Mark) Carpenter, Becky (Bobby) Ward, Olivia Friedmann, Haley Johnson, Kellan Friedmann, Trevi Friedmann, Chelsea Shoemaker, and Tara (Alex) Smith, along with her great-grandchildren Carmen, Miles, Bellamy, Brynleigh, Leighton, Aubree, and Xander. She is also survived by her brother, Jim (Rita) Gessner, and many other loving family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Heartland's Hospice in memory of Barbara.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with a service to follow at 11:00 AM at Newcomer Funeral Home, located at 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, Ohio 45432.
