Ashley Nicole Zelaya Soriano (Ashley Bates), passed away at the age of 39 on August 29, 2025, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.
Ashley was born on March 7, 1986. She was a devoted mother and a remarkable aunt. Ashley exhibited a profound passion for adventure and greatly enjoyed traveling. She was a strong-willed individual who never hesitated to express her true opinion. She may have been very hard-headed and demanding, but she would also take the time to be there for anyone who needed her. She will forever leave her mark on all of us, whether it's one of her strange sayings that we all thought were funny or her taste in music. No matter what was going on, there was laughter and always a memory that will stay with us. She always amazed us with her ability to be bilingual and the funny things she would teach anyone of us who could not speak it. She was an amazing person, strong and always willing to prove anyone wrong who said she could not do something; she always proved them wrong. One thing I know we all should have learned from Ashley is never be afraid to love who you are and always be yourself, because that's who she was. Even if there were people who did not agree with her actions or what she did, she held her head proud of who she was, and in this day in age, you don’t see that often. She was an amazing woman, and whoever's life she entered one way or another were so blessed to have her in their life.
Ashley is preceded in death by her Grandma and Grandpa, Darlene and Thomas Bates, and her nephew Mariono Padilla. which we know that she is up there in heaven with them, as they will be having a blast, and Ashley will be so happy to be with them and especially hearing their voices again.
Ashley is survived by her husband, Jose Santiago Zelaya Soriano; her parents, Melissa ann Stevens and Robert William Bates; his wife, Tammy; her daughters, Miranda Bates and Mariah Castillo; her brothers, Robert Bates jr and Brandon Bates, and her sister, April Alvarenga, and her husband Antonio. Also, her aunt Karen Bates and cousin Courtney Baker.
