Amber Susan Best (Cunningham), of Kettering Ohio passed away peacefully with her husband by her side on Tuesday, January 10, 2017. Her family, friends and colleagues remember Amber as a beautiful intelligent, vibrant and loveable woman, leaving everyone she touched with happy memories. Her guiding motto throughout her life was, "Do what you say you will do". And she did.
A graduate of the University of Dayton, and Flyer faithful, Amber began her career with Mead Paper Corporation and held positions at National City Corporation, New Page Corporation and Equitas Health. She was an Adjunct Professor at UD in the Communications Department for more than 20 years. She maintained numerous professional affiliations on the local, state, regional and national level, serving in a leadership capacity and receiving acclaim with many professional associations in manufacturing, government affairs and corporate communications.
Amber held many volunteer leadership positions with Dayton area organizations, and was Board Chair for both Culture Works and the Family Services Association. She was a member of the Rotary Club of Dayton and Leadership Dayton, and was an active volunteer with several grassroots organizations. She was the Honorary Chairperson of the Ribbon of Hope, and won the Glass Ceiling Award from the National Diversity Council.
Amber is survived by her husband, Jason Best, her children Hannah and Tim Garwood; step children, Rob, Ryan, Madelyn and Trent Best; father, Skip Cunningham and step-mother, Betty Cunningham of Murphy, NC; Her younger sister, Charlene (Cunningham) Kletzly, Seattle, WA. "Momma" Lyn O'Brien from Dayton and the entire O'Brien extended family.
A memorial service will be scheduled later this year; in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Dayton or Culture Works.
