Alvin E. Cooper, Jr.

Alvin E. Cooper, Jr., of Dayton, Ohio, passed away on September 17, 2026. He was born on June 11, 1964, in Cottage Grove, Oregon.

Alvin built a life marked by service, dedication, and deep love for those around him. He served his country in the United States Air Force for 20 years, retiring from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base as a Technical Sergeant after working in Intelligence. His commitment to duty continued long after his military retirement, as he returned to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in a civilian role and worked for NASIC for another 24 years. He also earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Illinois State University, reflecting the discipline and determination that shaped so much of his life.

Beyond his work, Alvin embraced life with warmth and enthusiasm. He enjoyed scuba diving, traveling, and skiing, and he especially loved hosting barbeques at his home, bringing people together in the easy fellowship he so naturally created. He was known as a very caring man for whom family meant the world. He always put others first, and his loving nature left a lasting mark on the many lives he touched.

He is survived by his daughter, Chelsea (Jeremy Stevens) Cooper; mother, Flossie Elnette Kelley; brother, Wade Goodwin; sisters, Teanah (Russell) Hale and Virginia (Buddy) Springstead. His family circle also includes his grandchildren, Harper Stevens and Haisley Stevens, whose place in his life brought him great joy. He is further survived by Brittany (Larissa) Hasty together sharing a bond that made Brittany like a daughter to him; as well as numerous extended family members and friends. Those who knew Alvin will remember a man whose care for others was steady, generous, and heartfelt.

He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin Cooper, Sr.; sisters, Delores Sands and Tammy Cooper; granddaughter, Skylar Cooper; and Linda Cooper, his former wife and best friend.

A Funeral Service will be held at 4:00PM on Sunday, September 27, 2026 at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Dayton, 4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton, Ohio 45424 where US Air Force Honors will be rendered. Family and friends may visit from 2:00PM until the time of service. 

Alvin’s life was one of service, loyalty, and love. He will be remembered for the strength of his character, the kindness of his heart, and the way he made family and friends feel welcomed, valued, and cared for.
