Allen Maurice Winchester

Allen Winchester was born in 1947 in Kentucky. He moved with his father, mother, and older brother to Indiana and then Dayton, Ohio, where he lived for many years. In 2011, he began spending part of the year in Fort Pierce, Florida with his wife, Donna, and dogs. 

A proud graduate of Stivers High School, Allen worked for the City of Dayton’s Aviation Department and the Dayton International Airport from 1967 to 2001. He was instrumental in bringing the airshow to Dayton beginning in 1974. Following his retirement after 34 years in aviation, he managed operations at Mercy Seneca Woods and the One Lincoln Park retirement community in Kettering, Ohio.

 Allen’s admirable professional life was eclipsed only by the loving extended family he built and fiercely protected. When he passed away peacefully with family by his side after a brief illness, he was preceded in death by his father Arthur, mother Elsie, brother Jim, nephew Randy, daughter Krista Donals, and grandsons Kyle and Danny. He is survived by wife Donna Winchester (née Gorby), sons Todd (Tiffany) and Brian (Leslie) Winchester, stepchildren Scott (Rachael) and Amanda (Matthew), 8 grandchildren: Alyssa, Jacob, Nicholas, Dillon, Katie, Gracie, Emma, and Ava, 5 great-grandchildren: Natalie, Evelyn, Oliver, Wynter, and Willow, 3 step-grandchildren: Sadie, Annabel, and Odin, and his 1979 Camaro Z28 t-top.

Allen, Al, Dad, Grandpa - he loved supporting the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Cincinnati Reds, and the Cleveland Browns, sharing the best original dad jokes, and strumming his guitar. He will be deeply missed by family, friends, and former colleagues across the country.
