SHERER, Alfred E., of Miamisburg, Ohio and formerly of Jasper, Alabama, died on February 9, 2017 at the age of 92. Alfred, "Cowboy", as his friends called him, was born August 23, 1924 in Jasper, Alabama and was the son of Clint and Jessie Sherer, who are both deceased.
He served his country in the U.S. Army as a member of the 96th Evac. Hospital during WWII. His hospital landed on the Utah Beach on June 16th, 1943, D-Day plus 10. He was awarded 5 Battle Stars in the Rhineland and Central European Campaigns.
After proudly serving his country, he went to work for the NCR Corporation in Dayton, Ohio where he retired after 30 years. He then worked 10 years as a Correctional Officer at Lebanon Correction Institute.
He was an active member of the Miamisburg, Moraine, and Lebanon Senior Centers. He was a member of the "Down Home Cloggers" and "Wheeler Dealers" square dancers.
Alfred belonged to the Minerva #98 Masonic Lodge and the American Legion in both Miamisburg and Franklin, Ohio. He was also a member of the VFW in Miamisburg and Franklin. He also enjoyed fishing and won many fishing tournaments.
Alfred is preceded in death by wife, Elaine; brothers, Clint Jr., Howard, Charles, and Fred Nelson; sister, Jessie Mae, and daughter, Martha. He is survived by his very special and loving friend of 30 years, Imogene Fletcher and her daughter, Sharon; sister, Elsie; son, John and loving friend, Patsy Pierce, and daughter, Janet. He is also survived by 4 granddaughters, 12 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
