Alfonso John Marmora Sr., age 95 of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2024. He was born on November 25, 1928, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late Rocco and Maria Marmora.
Alfonso was a devoted husband, father, and veteran who proudly served in both the United States Navy and United States Army. In 1946 while serving on the USS Turner, he took part in Operation Crossroads - the nuclear weapons tests at Bikini Atoll. During his Army service he was stationed in both Austria and Italy.
He was also a letter carrier for the United States Post Office for nearly 40 years. He was a sports fan, and worked at Riverfront Stadium and Great American Ballpark as a ticket taker for over 30 years.
Alfonso is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Olive Marmora; children Alfonso (Julie) Marmora Jr., Lawrence (Bonnie) Marmora, and his step-daughter Ellen Elliott; grandchildren David (Stephanie) Marmora, Alyssa (Jeremy) Krauth, John Parker Marmora, and Olivia Marmora, great-grandchildren Dominic, Lucas and Mia Marmora, and Claire and Noah Krauth.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers John and Rocco, his sisters Agnes, Martha, and Conchita, and his step-mother Aurelia.
His legacy of love, patriotism, service, and sacrifice will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A graveside service to honor and celebrate the life of Alfonso will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at 1:00 pm, at Dayton National Cemetery (4400 W. Third Street, Dayton, Ohio 45428).
