Alan Wayne Pummill

Alan Wayne Pummill, born June 28, 1952, in Valpraiso, Indiana, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2026, at his home in Xenia. In his final moments, Alan was enveloped in the loving embrace of his wife Hilda, comforted by her arms and accompanied by the sounds of his favorite music. It was a gentle farewell befitting a life filled with love, kindness, and purpose.

Alan’s life was a testament to resilience, compassion, and unwavering dedication. After graduating from Springboro High School in 1971, he furthered his studies and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Miami University Oxford—a foundation that would steer him into an extraordinary career. He spent over three decades as a manufacturing engineer supervisor and plant manager, principally working on vital aerospace and Department of Defense projects. Alan’s journey from the bottom to a position of well-earned leadership was more than a professional accomplishment; it was a reflection of his steadfast work ethic and unquenchable drive. Moments such as shaking John McClain’s hand and training and mentoring new employees at Fugitech highlighted his ability to connect with people and guide them to success. Earning his Six Sigma green belt, Alan’s innovative spirit and determination never waned—qualities that left a lasting mark on all who worked alongside him.

Happiness for Alan was never rooted solely in his career. His proudest achievement, the one he cherished above all, was his family. Alan’s life intertwined deeply with those he loved: his devoted wife Hilda, lovingly referred to as his “Tumbleweed Partner;” daughter Erica Pummill; granddaughter Mycah Callahan, step-son Bill Osmanski; grandchildren,  Emma Osmanski, Hugh Osmanski, Derrick Shirley, and Gavin Shirley; great-granddaughter Eleanor Baker; sister Vicki Kierstead; son-in-law Justin Shirley; and daughter-in-law Izumi Osmanski. Each relationship was built on a foundation of warmth and genuine affection—the very heart of Alan’s legacy.

He was preceded in death by his beloved first wife Sheila, step-daughter Hilda J Shirley, sisters Ellen Woods and Beth, and brother-in-law Dan Woods. Their memories, and those of the days spent together, were held dearly by Alan throughout his life.

For Alan, life’s joys were generously scattered across everyday moments and grand adventures alike. He found serenity on the golf course and exhilaration at concerts. Music and travel were threads woven through life’s fabric, shared with both Sheila and Hilda. Alan and Hilda reveled in their journeys together—in awe at The Biltmore Estate, among the misty majesty of the Smokey Mountains, amid the vibrant chaos of New Orleans' Mardi Gras, and along the scenic New England coastline. His passion for the Dayton Flyers was ever-present, a joyful reminder of his enduring love for community and cherished traditions. He was also a 30 year member of the Lebanon Eagles. 

Alan’s personality radiated warmth. He greeted every trial with perseverance, cared for his loved ones with steadfast dedication, and offered a cuddliness that brought comfort and joy to those lucky enough to know him. Through every season of change, every sorrow and celebration, Alan was a pillar—steady, nurturing, and kind.

Alan Wayne Pummill’s life will be honored with a Celebration of Life at Woodland Cemetery, located at 281 Dayton Ave, Xenia, OH 45385, day and times TBD. Please check back for updates. As we say goodbye, our hearts are heavy yet filled with gratitude—for the love Alan so freely gave, for the courage with which he lived, and for the indelible imprint he leaves behind. He will be missed dearly, cherished always, and remembered forever.
