Al Newport, a devoted family man and esteemed owner/operator of Newport Mechanical, passed away in Dayton, Ohio, on July 6, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on May 15, 1941, in Caryville, Tennessee, Al was a hardworking individual who dedicated his life to both his career and his family, who meant the world to him.
As the Owner of his HVAC business, his work ethic was defined by hard work and generosity, earning him the respect of colleagues and clients in the industry. Al cherished many interests throughout his life. He found joy in fishing and enjoyed shooting pool with his friends every Wednesday at his shop. Family gatherings, especially during the Christmas season, were treasured moments for Al, as he loved sharing laughter and creating memories with those he held dear. His passion for friends and family alike led to many gatherings at his shop, where they would cheer for their favorite teams. Al also served in the United States Army in his younger years.
He is survived by his loving children: Mark (Jennifer) Newport, Paul Newport, and Angel (J.R.) Harlow. Al took immense pride in his grandchildren: Joshua (Jiyeon) Newport, Jacquelyne (Adam) Fischer, Madalyn Newport, Amelia Harlow, and Charlie Harlow. His legacy will continue through his great-grandchildren James, Cameron, and Garrett. Al is also mourned by his siblings: Janet (Chris) Hipp and Ron Newport, as well as his sisters-in-law, Brenda Newport and Shirley Newport; and his "son", Joe Gayman. He leaves behind many special nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends, all of whom will miss his presence deeply.
Preceding Al in death were his beloved wife of 61 years, Shirley Ann Newport, and his parents, Leon and Tilda Newport. Al is also reunited in spirit with his siblings: Anna (Landon "By By") Smith, Lee Newport, and Gary Newport.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service beginning at 11:00 AM, at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, Ohio. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Dayton.
