In loving memory of Margaret and Gerald “Jerry” Hughes, both of Dayton. Margaret passed away on May 15, 2023, and Jerry passed away on May 17, 2023. Margaret was born in Caryville, Tennessee, on April 29, 1940, the daughter of the late Finley and Nancy Cross. Jerry was born in Portsmouth, Ohio, on January 8, 1932, the son of the late Floyd and Ethel Hughes.

Margaret enjoyed educating herself on a variety of topics from finance to cooking. Her advice was irreplaceable, cultivated from reading medical journals, keeping current with events and experience growing up in the mountains. Jerry proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was an avid sportsman, expert marksman and loved to tinker with a variety of mechanical projects.

Married for 59 years, both Margaret and Jerry had a wonderful sense of humor and adored time spent with their family. Margaret fell for Jerry’s charming wit and convertible sports car, and Jerry fell for Margaret’s feisty independence and beauty to spare.

Margaret and Jerry will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved them.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings, Yvonne Cross, Reba North, Pauline Ward and Lelia Smiddy. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Kenneth Hughes and Gordon Hughes.

They are survived by their loving children, Sandra (Douglas) Speelman, Greg (Terry) Hughes and Theresa (Donald) Seitz; grandchildren, Ashley, Kyle, Conner and Jacob; Margaret’s siblings, Jewell Tackett, Linda Bean, Patsy Price and Chester Cross; and many other loving family and friends.
