Wanda Jean Applin Life story video
Wanda Jean Applin, age 80 of Trotwood, passed away Friday, November 11, 2022 at home surrounded by her family. She was born March 23, 1942 in Springfield, Ohio the daughter of Charles Chandler and Mary (Robert) Overton.

In addition to sharing memories of time spent in her birthplace of Springfield, Ohio, Wanda also shared memories of earlier years of her life spent in places in Ohio such as Coshocton, Yellow Springs, Newcomerstown, and Youngstown (just a few mentioned). She eventually met her husband and father of her children (Ronald Edward Applin, whom she affectionately referred to as Papi) and began life in Dayton, Ohio. Her spiritual life included membership to her family’s church, Mt. Zion Baptist Church (in Springfield, Ohio), membership (along with her husband and children) to Christian life Center of Trotwood & Dayton Ohio. Wanda also had relationships with the Roman catholic and Jewish communities. She participated in charitable activities and her focus was to serve God and learn the best ways to help her children to do so as well. Wanda was a graduate of Springfield High School in the class of 1960 and attended Central State University (where she was enrolled in the cultural arts program and studied under the instruction of Bing Davis). Wanda had a versatile work history. However, she especially enjoyed modeling in some fashion shows and her employment at Elder-Beerman department stores (where she was a top seller in the hat and wig department). Wanda had an undeniable flair for fashion and was a social butterfly. She very much enjoyed shopping, cooking/baking, music, singing, sewing (making clothing and other items for friends, family, and even places such as the ballet school for the Victoria theater), crochet, ceramics, her various artwork, gardening, and caring for plants. During Wanda’s travels to different parts of the United States and even South America, she purchased gifts for family and friends. She always thought about others while doing things for herself. However, she most enjoyed time spent with her friends and family. Much of her later years were spent quietly at home, where she eventually passed on, while in the company of her children and two of her grandsons. Wanda meant so much to many people and will be greatly missed.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Overton and father, Charles Chandler; husband, Ronald E. Applin and sister, Barbara Chandler.

Wanda is survived by her children, Ronald (Monique) Applin, Myron (Shirelle) Applin & Annette Applin; many nieces and nephews; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; step-father, Robert Overton; sister, Marquita (Duane) Williams; special cousin, Janet (Victor) Casey and many other loving family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
