John A. Andrews
1935 - 2022

John A. Andrews, age 86 of Kettering, passed away Sunday, January 23, 2022. He was born August 13,1935 in Bulawayo, Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), the son of the late Mary Elizabeth Walker-Wright and Archibald Porter Andrews.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Thomas; and nephew, Kenneth Thomas.

John is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Marjorie; 2 daughters, Susan (Kevin) Dittmar and Laurie (Joseph) Gray; grandchildren, Jennifer, Katherine, and Andrew Dittmar, all of Phoenix, Arizona; brother, Stanley Andrews of Glasgow, Scotland; and niece, Patricia Swart of Melbourne, Australia.

John was the son of Scottish immigrants who moved to Rhodesia to build the railroad. He left Rhodesia in 1953 with best friend Ronald (Pat) Hansen for a trip to Canada and never returned to the country of his birth. In 1961, John met Marjorie in Montreal, Quebec shortly after he had committed to join the U.S. Air Force. They were married in Nash Creek, New Brunswick and moved to the U.S. after their wedding.

After leaving the service, John and his family settled in Kettering, Ohio to be near special "family" Patricia and Robert Metzger and their children Christine (Steve) Wagoner and Greg Metzger.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of Dayton for their care and support during the past 14 months. And to the Metzger, Wagoner, and Ferdiny families, your love and support has been such a blessing through this difficult time.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, June 17, 2022 @ 10 am at Miami Valley Memory Gardens (1639 E. Lytle-Five Points Rd, Centerville, OH 45458).
