In Memory Of
William Madden "Bill" West
1939 - 2021

One day short of his 82nd birthday, Bill “urn’d” his way to the great beyond.

Bill graduated from Chaminade in 1957. He enlisted in the Navy; however; was sent to the hospital to follow up on his enlistment physical. It was there that he met and then married his nurse, Maureen and they spent the next 63 years together in wedded bliss.

NCR signed Bill in 1958 as a messenger boy and he retired in 2001 after 20 years in his dream job as the NCR archivist. Bill’s knowledge of NCR and Dayton’s history was unprecedented….long before Google existed.

Bill served on numerous Boards linked with the history of Dayton and was active in local sports both playing and coaching. Bill was a founding member of the Swamp Stompers softball team where he was believed to have been the leagues first “switch pitcher.” As a coach, Bill helped grow the St. Charles soccer program and continued in various coaching roles at Alter High School. He was also the Team Bus Driver and could easily locate any McDonald’s in the state of Ohio….well before GPS.

He was fascinated by technology and on-line shopping. Amazon has recently sent along their condolences. He became an internet sensation late in life as the star of YouTube’s “Pills with Bill.”

Maureen and Bill have 2 awesome children, Jeanel (Greg) Gliebe and Guy (Linda) West; 4 Grandchildren and 4 Great-Grandchildren.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Judetta West his brother Guy P. West, and sisters Sharon Herbert and Nancy Breitenstein.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 am - 11:00 am on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at St. Charles Borromeo Parish located at 4500 Ackerman Blvd. Kettering, Ohio 45429. Mass of Christian Burial will be officiated at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bill's name to Smile Train at smiletrain.org.
