Curt Douglas “Big Doug” Sims, Sr., age 53, of Dayton, passed away Monday, February 8, 2021 at Miami Valley Hospital. He was born June 18, 1967 in Detroit, Michigan.
He is preceded in death by his father, Frederick Sims and mother, Linda Miller.
Big Doug is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Lamikaa Hammett; his adoring children, Ta'Mara “Mar Mar” Sims, Eternydee “Dee” Sims; Curt Douglas "Lil Doug" Sims, Jr., Stradus Sims and Myair Sims; four grandchildren, K'Lynn Hayden, Jaida Martin, Ma'Riah Echols, Marco Echols, Jr.; siblings, Cynthia (Matt) McGriff, Steve (Michelle) Sims, Tracy (Yvette) Miller, IV. and Angel Miller; step-father, Tracy Miller, Jr.; special friend whom he considered a daughter, Briana Jones; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and numerous friends.
Doug was also known as “Big Hump” to his very close childhood friends, Robert “Godfather” Moses, Phil (Kesha), Reggie, Don, Dismuke, the Brown and Howard families, along with many others from his Parkside family. He was a 1985 graduate of Colonel White H.S. where he was a star football player and wrestler. Doug was an all-star athletic who was featured in many newspaper articles. He played semi-pro football for many years. As everyone knows, Doug was a “beast” in the kitchen and on the grill. He was known as a problem solver whom everyone could count on.
Big Doug was a huge Detroit Lions fan. Everyone attending his service is encouraged to wear their favorite football jersey to the viewing and funeral. He was an avid bowler who bowled many 300 perfect games.
Family will receive friends Friday, February 26, 2021 from 5-8 pm and on Saturday from 1-3pm at Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, where his funeral will take place, Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 3:00 PM.
