Erling Markusen, 81. Erling Markusen was the grandson of Norwegian immigrants who homesteaded the ranch where he spent most of his life near Towner, North Dakota. He was born to Edwin and Petra Markusen on August 3, 1938 and died in Ohio on July 11, 2020. Erling was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother Leonard Markusen, a brother who died during childhood, and his wife Beulah Markusen. Erling was a rancher who raised black angus cattle and grew a variety of crops with his brother Stanley Markusen, who in addition to being his business partner, was also his closest friend. Erling was a 1956 graduate of Dakota Lutheran Academy in Minot, North Dakota and he maintained a lifetime commitment to Christ. Erling and his wife Beulah moved to Clifton, Ohio in 2011 to be near his stepdaughter Susie (Carl) Ruby, grand-daughters Meagan (Micah) Wagner, Kelsey Ruby, Erin Ruby, and Leah Ruby, and two great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Elouise Wagner. While in Clifton Erling was active at Grace Baptist Church and with the Clifton Senior Center. Erling was humble, compassionate, generous and kind and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Special thanks to Grace Baptist Church and his friends at the Clifton Senior Center for the kindness they demonstrated to Erling prior to his death. A memorial service for family and friends will be livestreamed later this summer. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Erling’s memory to the Clifton Senior Center, Clifton, Ohio (Checks made out to the Clifton Senior Center may be sent to Susie Ruby, 7711 Garlough Rd. Springfield, OH, 45368).
