Al served in the US Air Force from 1959 to 1963 in Disaster Control and on the Gun and Rifle Team. He retired from General Motors after 34 years of service. He was also a member of the Local United Auto Workers Union. In his spare time, Al enjoyed playing euchre with his buddies where they called him "Mr. Euchre." Al also spent time bowling at Woodman Lanes and loved playing golf at Sugar Valley Country Club. He enjoyed following his favorite team, The Ohio State Buckeyes. Al's greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Al leaves behind a loving legacy that includes his wife, Sally; son, Matt (Sandy) Utz of Kettering, OH; grandsons, Zach and Zeke Frazier; step-children, Don (Amy) Mays of Virginia Beach, VA, Tim (Rita) Mays of Beavercreek, OH, Shelli (Jim) Cramer of Franklin, OH, Lisa (Jeff) McSwain of Cincinnati, OH, Brian (Deborah) Gibboney of Beavercreek, OH, and Robyn (Steve) Rasnic of Dayton, OH; sister, Mary Lou Wall; brothers, Mike (Lynn) Utz, Bobby (Beth) Landrum, and Jon (Patty) Landrum; and 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Al was preceded in death by his parents; his daughters Belinda Frazier and Melinda Utz; sisters, Joanie Kincaid and Jean Hake; and brothers, Steve Utz and Rocky Landrum.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2020 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Road, Beavercreek, OH. Funeral services will immediately follow at 11:00 am with Brian Gibboney officiating. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery. Following the services, please join the family for a luncheon at Oak Creek Worship Center, 4800 Bigger Road, Kettering, Ohio.
The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Dayton for their compassion and care for Al. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Al's name to Hospice of Dayton.
