1930 - 2016

Frank J. Caldwell, 86, of West Carrollton, passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2016. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Betty Lou (Tyree) Caldwell, his father, Joseph V. (Bill) Caldwell, his mother, Emily C. (Knopp) Caldwell, his brother, Robert Caldwell, and his sister, Jane Kothman. He is survived by three sons, Phil (Joanne) Caldwell, Ron (Linda) Caldwell, Steve (Marcy) Caldwell, and one daughter, Alison Vaught; two brothers, Tony (Myrna) Caldwell, and Mike Caldwell; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Frank was a 1948 graduate of Chaminade High School, where he earned a place in the National Mathematics Honor Society; a 1952 graduate of the University of Dayton with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree, and a 1954 graduate of the Illinois Institute of Technology with a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He served in the U.S. Army as an Engineer with the 9336 Technical Group at the end of the Korean conflict. His career in Engineering was with NCR Corporation in Dayton, and Hobart Corporation in Troy, with whom he retired as Principal Engineer in 1995. Frank was also commissioned a Kentucky Colonel in 1969.

Frank was one of the original parishioners of St. Henry Catholic Church in West Carrollton, where he remained a faithful member the remainder of his life. In the 1960’s, 70’s, and 80’s, he was a member of the Miami Valley Touring Club and the Sports Car Club of America, during which time he was a nationally-ranked sports car rallyist.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 10 am at St. Henry Catholic Parish, 6696 N. Springboro Pike, Dayton, OH 45449, with Mass of Christian Burial immediately following. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. If you wish, gifts in lieu of flowers may be made to St. Henry Catholic Church or Hospice of Dayton.

Frank was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend; he will be missed by all who knew him.
