Kimberly Lynn Vernekar (Bruce), 39 of Huber Heights, passed away September 22, 2017.

She was born September 13, 1978 to Burl and Kathy (Wirtheim) Bruce. Kim was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Burl and Jean Bruce, and maternal grandfather, John Louis Wirtheim.

Kim was a 1996 graduate of Wayne High School. She graduated from Miami University in 2000 and earned her law degree from the University of Dayton in 2003. She worked as a Montgomery County Public Defender from 2004 to 2017, until illness no longer allowed her to continue. She loved adventures and traveling all around the world. Most of all, she adored and loved her son.

Kim is survived by her parents; son, Alexander Vernekar; maternal grandmother, Marilyn Joy Wirtheim; close friend, Lisa Sinclair; former husband, Rakesh Vernekar and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-4 PM on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Kimberly Vernekar Scholarship Fund c/o Miami University Foundation, 725 East Chestnut Street, Oxford, OH 45056.
