Life began for her on January 28, 1934 in Edwards, Mississippi, the last surviving daughter of TB Frost and Sarah Liggins Frost Allen. She was born on the campus of Southern Christian Institute to a preacher/pioneer and teacher. In addition to her parents, Mattie was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas C. McCloria; sons: Rudolph Duncan and Henry Hamilton Duncan; and siblings: Ethel Frost White, Thelma Frost Jackson, Edward Frost, Howard Frost, KJ Frost, Mary Frost Jackson and John Frost.

Mattie is survived by her daughters: Signoria McClure (Eric) and Thalia Duncan-Alexander; grandchildren: Kendria Jordan, Kisha Jordan, Katasha Milbry (Keith), LaShawn Duncan and Keyona Briggs (Dana); great-grandchildren: Antwann, Otis, A'Nesty, Brianna, Keith, Austin, Kendall; brother and sister-in-law: Provine McCloria and Maria Gillory (both of Gardena, CA); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mattie’s long experiences with schools started at the early age of four. Moving to Texas at age six, she graduated from Weldon High School, Gladewater, Texas at age sixteen. In 1952, she graduated from Southern Christian Institute, and in May 1954 from Jarvis Christian College, Hawkins, Texas. She took student teaching in the summer of 1954 from Bishop College. She later earned her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Dayton.

Mattie started her teaching career in August 1954 at Booker T. Washington High School in Philadelphia, Mississippi. She taught Mathematics and Social Studies for two years and Veteran’s Night School for one year. Mattie taught Advanced Math for 30 years in the Dayton Public Schools (Roosevelt and Belmont H.S.). She was a caring tutor who encouraged and helped many of her students get into college. Through her ties with the Disciples of Christ, a number of Mattie's students attended her alma mater, Jarvis. Mattie was a servant of God, and an active member of Summit Christian Church for over 50 years. Her service included singing in both the Gospel Chorus and Chancellor Choir, the Esther Group, and the Sarah Wilson Scholarship Fund. Mattie was always helping out with various church auxiliaries.
