1942 - 2019

Charles L. “Charlie” Welles, Sr., age 77 of Kettering passed away peacefully on Monday, November 18, 2019 at Village at the Greene.

Charlie was born on August 14, 1942 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Daniel and Louella Welles. He was raised in Kettering; graduating from Fairmont High School in 1962.

Charlie proudly served our nation during the Vietnam War in the United States Navy, serving 2 tours.

He worked at DESC, Jimmix’s Towing and W & W Automotive and Towing. Charlie was a volunteer firefighter with the Kettering Fire Department for 15 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws Walt and Barb Stafford; brother-in-law Dean Stafford and sister-in-law Terri Murray.

Charlie is survived by his wife of 43 years, Barbara (Stafford) Welles; three children Charles (Elizabeth) Welles, Jr., Alicia (Phil) Clare and Janice (Chris) Gray; 5 grandchildren Eli Haynes, Geoffrey Clare, Gabrielle Clare, Peyton Plymate and Jillian Welles; as well as many other relatives and friends who were blessed to know and love him.

Family and friends will visit on Sunday, November 24, 2019 from 2-4:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, Beavercreek Chapel. A service to celebrate Charlie’s life will be held on Monday, November 25, 2019 at 1:00 pm at the funeral home.

Interment will follow the funeral service at Dayton National Cemetery with full military honors.
