Jean C. Rhodes was born April 13, 1941 in Louisville, Kentucky to Joseph Roosevelt Baldwin and Elizabeth M. Wilson. She attended public schools in Louisville, KY, Cincinnati and Dayton Ohio.
She professed Christianity at an early age and joined Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Dayton where she sang in the choir. After moving to Chicago, Jean joined the New Faith Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School until her relocation to Athens, GA. There, she joined the Shiloh Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. B. S. Jackson and continued to sing in the choir, teach Sunday School and was a member of the Nursing Guild. Singing in the choir was her passion.
A graduate of Olive Harvey College and Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois she began practice as a Medical Nurse Associate, which was the pilot program for Nurse Practitioners. Jean was the owner of Hyde-Park Kenwood Home Health for 7 years before joining the City Colleges of Chicago as the Laboratory Coordinator for the 2 year Rn Nursing program. In 1996, Jean moved to Athens, Georgia and joined the Athens Regional Medical Center as a Registered Nurse where she retired in February 2007.
Jean returned to Dayton in 2010 and joined the Zion Baptist Church in Troy, Ohio where her brother serves as Pastor. She also worked at Project Cure until retiring again in February 2019.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Michelle Denise Vaughn; her parents, Joseph Baldwin, Sr. and Elizabeth Wilson
To mourn her passing is her brother, Pastor Joseph Baldwin, Jr. (Carolyn); nephew, Shawn D. Baldwin (Phyllis); 3 great nieces, Blair A., Paige A. and Chase A. Baldwin; I great nephew, Dane M. Baldwin.
Visitation will be held on August 17, 2019 from 10:00am to 11:00am at Newcomer Funeral Home, Kettering Chapel, 3940 Kettering Blvd. Services will follow at 11:00am at the funeral Home.
