Chester H. "Chet" Thompson
1931 - 2019

Chester H. "Chet" Thompson, age 88 of Oakwood formerly of Beavercreek, OH passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 14, 2019 at Brookdale Oakwood. He was born June 27, 1931 in Ironton, Ohio to Marion and Martha (Barker) Thompson. Chet married Ruth Rehmert on September 27, 1955 in Dayton, OH.

After high school Chet received a scholarship from Dayton Malleable Iron to attend the University of Cincinnati where he earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering. Following graduation from college, he served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1956, and continued to serve in the Army Reserve until 1963. Chet worked for Chrysler Airtemp for 22 years and helped design and patent the heat pump and other devices. He then worked for Defense Electronics Supply Company (DESC) for 22 years. Chet was an avid fisherman and enjoyed many years singing in local choral groups to include, Kettering Community Chorus and Liederkranz of Dayton. He loved his family dearly and will be greatly missed by all.

Chet is survived by his daughter, Jill (Terry) Caldwell; a son, John Thompson; three grandchildren, Steven and Scott Thompson and Alethea (Justin) Ward; two great grandchildren, Obadiah and Elliott Ward; a special niece, Kay Hudson; longtime friends, John and Joanne Fristo and Jim and Barb Ellis; and other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth; a brother James "Bud" Thompson; a son, Jeff Thompson; two sisters, Pearl Lavender and Imogene Hudson.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Chet's caregivers Danielle Condiff and Sam Carlson for their loving care and friendship.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2019 from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Beavercreek Chapel, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, Ohio 45432. Funeral Services will follow the visitation at 1:30 pm at the funeral home. Burial to follow services at Beaver Cemetery, Beavercreek, OH.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can me made to the Alzheimers/Dementia Association, 31 W. Whipp Rd, Dayton, OH 45459 or Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Avenue, Dayton, OH 45420.
