She accomplished so much in her lifetime, having graduated from High School and attending college. Benzetta was the proud mother to three beautiful children, whom she adored. She was a dedicated employee, having worked for 20+ years at Rikes/Macy’s Department store. She also worked at the YMCA/YWCA of Dayton, OH and Sinclair Community College, before retiring. She loved gardening and growing flowers; was an avid reader and writer. She also enjoyed music and playing basketball with her cousins. Benzetta was a wonderful seamstress who taught many this wonderful craft. enjoyed music. She enjoyed bringing joy to people through conversation. She was a member of Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church.
Benzetta was the youngest of five children and is preceded in death by her parents, William (Archerine) Sherman, Ruth French-Sherman; sisters Roteen (James) Walker, Jestene (LJ) Williams and Tyree (Earvie) Sherman; special nephew Thurman Story; special Caregivers: James Carl Jamerson Sr., Vicky Demmons, Sheila Peterson; special friend the late Bernice Wesson.
She is survived by one sister Dorothy (HopeLee) Jordan; three children – Joyce Martin of Ohio; Janice Bradford of California; James (Crystal) Bradford of Illinois; five grandchildren Terasia, Jai, Brianna, Taylor, DaReecia (Corinthian); two great-grandchildren Jeremiah and Faith of Illinois; special friends Geneva Thomasson, Ann Jackson, Mary Carter, Art Sullivan, and numerous loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will begin at 12 noon on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church, with Funeral Services at 1 pm. Interment will be at West Memory Gardens and the Repast will immediately follow, at Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that you consider making donations to The Dementia Society of America or Hospice of Dayton.
