Ronald Dean Long, age 72 of Riverside, passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2019. He was born August 24, 1946 in Gothenburg, Nebraska to the late Wilma and Ray Long.

Ron was a 1964 graduate of Cozad High School in Cozad, Nebraska. He served in the U.S. Navy. Ron was employed with the Navel Station on Bowling Air Force Base (AFB), Capital Films in Washington, D.C., the Library of Congress at Wright Patterson AFB and the Dayton Auto Auction.

Ron was an avid golfer. He enjoyed playing horse shoes with his buddies, bowling, wood working, and taking family vacations. He was a fan of the Washington Redskins, NASCAR, Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by niece, Sarah Gardener and sister-in-law, Judy Bayes.

Ron will be missed by his loving wife of 49 years, Janie; two daughters, Christy (Gordon) Cairns, Tracey (David) Stitzel; son, Todd (Kimberly) Long; grandchildren, Codie and Aiden Cairns; Devin Stitzel; Ashlyn, Makenna and Isaiah Long; siblings, Janet Long, Raymond Long, David (Mary Lou) Long and Ted (Judy) Long; aunt Betty Crossman; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Ron's family would like to thank the nurses from the Hospice of Miami Valley for their great care. Also family and friends for their visits, meals, comforts, prayers and generosity.

Family will receive friends Sunday, February 24, 2019 from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 3 p.m. at Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd., Dayton, Ohio, his brother, pastor Ted Long will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Ron's memory to Hospice of Miami Valley or the Huber Heights VFW Post 3283.
