In Memory Of
Mary J. Hanley
1942 - 2018

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, teacher, author, entrepreneur, mentor and friend, Mary Judith Hanley-Homan. Mary died on December 2, 2018, at the age of 75 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born in Dayton, Ohio on December 14,1942 to James William Hanley and Audrey Freedman. Mary grew up in Deer Park, Ohio with her three brothers and two sisters where she attended grade school at St. Vincent Ferrer and later Regina High School where she graduated Salutatorian in 1960. After high school, she married the late James Martin, Sr and raised three children. It was during that time that Mary became an avid practicing student, teacher and author in yoga. In the mid-70’s, she published “Yoga - beginning techniques for youth and exceptional children” inspired by her volunteer work with mentally challenged children in the Atlanta metro area. Mary received recognition for her work from Governor Jimmy Carter, later President of the United States. In the 1980’s Mary became involved in the early HMO movement working for Blue Cross and Blue Shield’s Health Maintenance Plan (HMP) in Dayton, OH. It was that work that led her to start a managed care company, Integra Group, in 1988 with her business partner, William (Bill) Stief. Mary and Bill were recognized for their work with various awards from the business community. Mary was also recognized and known in the business community for promoting and mentoring women in business. In 1991, Mary married Vincent Homan. Over the 27 years of their marriage they lived happily in Cincinnati, OH, Nashville, IN and Scottsdale, AZ. She loved to dance. You would always find her on the dance floor at weddings and social events. In high school Mary with her cousin, Steve Marmer, won a jitterbug dance contest on Bob Braun’s Bandstand. Everyone who came in contact with Mary was drawn to her. As put by a close friend, “When you were in conversation with Mary she always made you feel like you were the only one in the room.” Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers, Kevin and Christopher Hanley. Beside her husband, Vincent, she is survived by three children James Martin Jr (Leda), Gina Martin, and Jennifer Martin-Fielder (Greg), one brother Michael Hanley, Sr, two sisters Kathleen McGrath (Barry) and Suzanne Hanley, two step-children Marc Homan (Emily) and Suzanne Tunney (Ben). To her seven grandchildren and five step-grandchildren she was known as Mimi. Her loving smile and presence will be missed by all of us. A memorial Mass and Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at St. Vincent Ferrer ‘s church, 7754 Montgomery Rd., Kenwood, OH 45236. Mass will be at 11:00am with visitation at 10:00am in the vestibule. In lieu of flowers we request donations in Mary’s memory be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 644 Linn St., #1026, Cincinnati, OH 45203.
