He was preceded in death by his wife Gertraud “Betsy”; his son LCpl Hartwig R. Poole; his parents: Lawrence & Lucille; 3 brothers: Matthew, Bill, & Ed. He is survived by his son Michael (Darlene) Poole; his granddaughters Heather (Kirk Hinders), Michelle (Jason Miller), & Keri; as well as Shawn, Brendan, & Melissa Oborne; and Bruce & Bill Strack. Among his great grandchildren are Alec, Jillian, Trevor, Sydney, Krystal, & Justin. He is also survived by Suzie (Nick Kepics), 2 sisters: Barbara Henize and Rosie (Lawson Roades), nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He spent 40 years in the service of his country. He served in WWII and Korea. He also worked as a Logistics Engineer at WPAFB. He was a member of the Military Officers Assoc. & the Reserve Officers Assoc. He enjoyed wood-working and was an instructor at the Rosewood Arts Centre Wood Shop for many years. He was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. He will be remembered as a giving & kind soul. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations be made to the “Wounded Warrior Project”.
The viewing will be held on Monday, December 22nd, between 2:00-4:00 pm and services will be held at 4:00 pm at the Newcomer Funeral Home in Beavercreek.
The family will hold a private burial at a later date at Woodland Cemetery, Dayton.
