Nelms (Shepherd) Diane, age 60, of Dayton, OH departed this life on Wednesday February 25, 2015 at Miami Valley Hospital. She is preceded in death by her parents Harvey Shepherd Sr. and Glenna Mae Shepherd; 2 brothers Harvey Jr. and Clifford “Jimmy” Shepherd all of Greenville, AL. Mother-in-law Arvestia (Nelms) Herbert of Dayton, OH.
She was born June 18, 1954 in Dayton, OH. A saved child of God, she was a faithful member of St. Timothy Missionary Baptist Church. She graduated from Patterson High School and attended Sinclair Community College. She was a retiree of Montgomery County Combine Health District after many years of service. Known for her wonderful generosity, Diane donated to many charitable organizations. Her kind heart and beautiful smile would light up an entire room.
She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted, beloved husband and soul mate of 44 years Rev. Dr. Lysander Nelms, loving and devoted daughter Teresa Latashia Nelms (special son-in-law Britt Zackary Sr.) of Dayton, Ohio, step daughter Nicole Dudley of Cincinnati, Ohio. Loving grandsons Britt Zackary Jr., and Kristopher Zackary of Dayton, Ohio, step granddaughter Jaszmyn Dudley of Cincinnati, Ohio. Siblings Gloria (Carl Sr.,deceased) Blanchard, Melba (Shepherd) Smith of Dayton, Ohio, Helen Iweriebor of Phoenix, AZ, and brother, Robert (Terri, deceased) Shepherd of Dayton, Ohio. 4 sister-in-laws Katherine (Rev. Virgil) Ricks, Patricia (Rev. Leroy) White, of Dayton, Ohio; Virginia (L.C., deceased) Glover of Syracuse, NY, and Annie Lois (Thomas, deceased) Spear of Macon, GA; brother-in-law Elliott (Lillie, deceased) Nelms of Dayton, Ohio. Special Cousin Callie Henderson. Special Friend Renee Conyers, and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service, Thursday March 5, 2015 @ 12 noon at St. Timothy Missionary Baptist Church, 4466 Free Pike Ave. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Rev. Dr. Alonzo Looney officiating, Rev. Dr. Lysander Nelms, eulogist. Interment Cedar Hill Cemetery, Trotwood, Ohio. Arrangements entrusted to Newcomer Funeral Home.
