Ruth Marie Hager of Dayton, OH, died July 21, 2018 in Dayton, OH with family close at hand.

She was born August 17, 1931 in Stillwater, OK, the daughter of Earl Weaver and Helen Mary (Searles) Weaver. She spent her childhood in E. Lansing MI where she graduated from Michigan State University, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in early childhood education and a minor in music (clarinet).

Married to Chauncey William (Bill) Hager for 62 years, they moved in 1958 to Dayton, OH where they resided together until her death. Ruth worked as a school teacher and later as Director of the preschool at South Park United Methodist Church, and as a realtor for her husband’s Oakwood business, Classics Realty, Inc. Her main career was supporting her husband and children, all of whom love her dearly.

Ruth was a Girl Scout, a Delta Zeta, and a member of the Dayton Women’s Choir and Music Club. Ruth loved gardening, music (clarinet and vocal), community and urban studies, and traveled annually with her husband to attend National Trust Conferences throughout America. Attentive, witty, loving, and sharp through all her 86 years, Ruth was a keen observer of politics, cultural events, and sports.

Ruth’s life was one of steadfast commitment and actions reflected through her quiet leadership to family and community.

In addition to her husband, survivors include her daughters Mary Helene Crockett (Michael Eugene Crockett), Michele Kathleen Finch (Garth Sterrett Finch), and son Grant William Hager (Kimberlee Stomps Hager), and grandsons Nathan Earl Rogers, Jason Rutledge Finch, Parker Grant Hager, and granddaughter Rachel Anna Finch, brother Harold Weaver (Betty Marshall Weaver), sister-in-law Marceline Kidman Weaver.
