He was a coal miner and later moved to Dayton, Ohio to work for General Motors from where he retired after 30 years. He was a charter member and past Governor of the Crystal Lakes Moose Lodge #2464 in Medway. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Murphy; siblings, Earl (Alene) Murphy of New Carlisle, OH, Cecil (Faye) Murphy of Fairborn, OH, Zella (Bill) Mills of Virginia, Alma (Cecil) Rasnake of Virginia and brother, Richard Murphy, who died as a young child.
Elijah will be missed by his loving children, Diane (Tom Senkowski) Dearing, Ronald Murphy, Donna Roche and Don Murphy; grandchildren, Melissa (Robby) Kitchens, Brandy (Jason) Watkins, Kevin (Stephanie) Murphy, Alisa (Brian) Hester, Robert Murphy, Amanda Murphy; great grandchildren, Drew and Dylan Watkins, Gage and Brock Kitchens, Aedan Baker, Audrina Hester, Michael and Avery Murphy, Chloe Murphy and Hunter Adkins; siblings, Faye Haas of Dayton, OH and James Murphy of New Carlisle.
Thank you to the doctors, nurses, Vitas Healthcare Hospice and everyone who cared for our father at Grandview Hospital and everyone in the 4th floor ICU. They were very professional and so very kind and respectful to our father and we will never forget them. Plus a special thanks to all the family and friends for all of their prayers and kind thoughts.
Family will receive friends Thursday, January 25, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:30 p.m. at Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd. Dayton, Ohio, Rev. Sharon L. Montgomery, officiating. Burial will be held at Byron Cemetery immediately following the services.
